I inserted the movie DVD, and pressed the triangle button from the settings column. I chose to enable direct disc access, and it asked me to eject the disc and re-insert, which I did and then pressed the X button to OK. Now onto the Video column, chose the disk and pressed the triangle button.

@: I think this hasn't changed. I created the ISO on an external HDD, then cat'ed the 4 GB files to a huge ISO file, then used DVDFab to create a MKV file. That works quite fast, because it's a remux operation (no h.264 encoding). Also included subtitles in the MKV. Then copied via ftp to the PS3 internal drive, and used Showtime to play back the MKV.
