Gibson Les Paul Cracked Binding
Conditional Restoration Drivers License Nc North. I was looking over my les paul today, cleaning it and such. And right below the fretboard where the neck meets the body theres a hairline crack, I don't know if it's the wood or just the paint but I'm pretty much freaking out. It stops, then theres another one right under where the fretboard meets the neck, it really doesn't look like it's supposed to be there. Do you think it's something in the wood or just the paint cracking? Also, there was this weird black/brown stuff on the bottom, I don't know how it got there, it took of some of the binding to get it off.
So i'm pretty much pissed. Originally posted by Armored Artist This is no laughing matter. This is a Gibson LP we're talking about. Though I suspect that it's only a finish crack and will not affect the guitar in any way. I don't know about Gibson, but I know that Fenders are notorious for having harmless finish cracks near the neck joint. If you are still worried and you're the original owner. Maybe you have a waranty?
Can you post a picture of it? I'll try and take a picture. It's so small and it's a white finish so I doubt you'd even see it. Originally posted by Armored Artist I think if you post a pic and ask the guys in the Gear Building and Customizing forum, they would be able to offer good advice on how to repair it. And if you're willing to shell out a few bucks for the cause, you can always have it professionally repaired. It's not like it's broken, if it's paint cracks then i'm not going to worry about it. I talked to my dad and he said another reason could be because the wood expands when in heat, and it has been an extremely hot summer.
